He is assisted by his faithful lab assistant, Sam Fujiyama (Robert Ito). In early episodes, Quincy's relationship with both men is often volatile and nearly adversarial (with Asten especially) which changed dramatically in later episodes where Quincy appears to have much closer professional and personal relationships with the two. Robert Asten and the police, in particular, LAPD Homicide Lieutenant Frank Monahan, who each have their own (often flawed) ideas about what's going on and about Quincy's deductions. Quincy, a strong-willed, very principled medical examiner for the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office, working to ascertain facts about and reasons for possible suspicious deaths & is assisted by his faithful lab assistant, Sam Fujiyama.ĭuring his investigations, Quincy frequently comes into conflict with his boss, Dr. 'Quincy M.E.' ended on Septemafter 8 seasons and 148 episodes. The series proved popular enough that midway through the 1976–1977 season, it was spun off into its own weekly one-hour series and 'The Mystery Movie' format was discontinued in the spring of 1977.
